ABOUT
BLOG HISTORY
Escape was created by Paul Scrivens for FineFools. It later became a part of the 9rules family, which was also organized and run by Paul. Due to exclusivity issues, Escape (whose blogger multi-tasked in several other blog networks) had no choice but to leave the wonderful 9rules enclave. Escape then became a part of b5media. This transfer was also temporary due to demands of the blogger’s real like work (which includes a lot of travel). For the past year, Escape has been an indepent blog which had been, sadly, neglected.
And now that I have found a bit more time in my hands… the dust that has gathered around this blog will slowly be dusted away.
ABOUT THE BLOG
Escape Blog is a different kind of travel blog. You’ll read lots of tips on how not to get yourself in trouble while vagabonding abroad. Plus, you’ll get more information which could probably help you win that next trivial pursuit game.
In any case, this site is not only informative, it’s very entertaining too.

Escape Blog is a new offering from the nascent Fine Fools blog network. Mostly it covers ground dealing with avoiding mistakes in foreign cultures, or at least not being shocked and repulsed by oddities like female underarm hair, uncircumcised penises, or peeled bananas. No specific advice on how to convince your adult European lover to get his lil’ hoodie stripped, but just pick up one of the devices at left should you choose to perform the procedure at home. Somewhat prim in the entries to date, but given time and seasoning, I’m sure the blog will get all up into fringe sex tourism. – Gridskipper
Kyle sniffed out the pre-launch Escape Blog, a travel blog that feels less marketed and consumption-heavy. It’s another Fine Fools blog, and already one of the most fascinating – Blogebrity
Gridskipper pointed me to a new-ish blog that is, so far, doing a great job of preventing people like us from looking like idiots in foreign lands. It’s called Escape Blog. – The World is Not Flat
Escape Blog is a site written by the talented Melissa Petri – Paul Scrivens, 9rules.

ABOUT THE BLOGGER
Melissa Petri is an expatriate in Germany; and count the
She used to blog for b5media’s EuropeString, CW’s Flyaway-Weblog, Wandalust and the travel corporate blog Kinkaa and KMM’s Road Gladiator. She has already written several times about travel and blogging over at Blog Herald and Darren’s ProBlogger. Unfortunately, the way up the corporate ladder prevented her from problogging. In the end, she had to say goodbye to all of them.
She has always been fascinated by culture, individuals and social mores. And for her, to have experienced the differences first hand is mind-blowing. She has been discriminated against and judged based on cultural stereotypes. And she also admits to occasionally sizing someone else up with bigotry. Several countries of residence later, she still has her moments of unfairness.
She thinks of Escape Blog as several post-it notes on cultural differences.
She has been trying to put some post-it notes on every compartment she has in her brain to remind herself of what she should and should not do when in other countries or when in the presence of foreigners. She admits that she is a work in progress.
“Getting there is only part of the equation; making sure you don’t piss off the locals is where the excitement begins”
